So I understand the idea behind a blog is to update it often. In my case let’s just start with more often and hope for the best.
> Brutal loss by Washington in Charlotte last night. Down 18 at half and lost by 20. In other words, no effort from start to finish as the Bobcats shot 57.3% for the game. This drops the Wizards to 2-8 without Caron Butler and looking in dire need of a life preserver.
In a related note, Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo said he wants to have a clear-the-air meeting with Gilbert Arenas. "We need to have a conversation, and he needs to say some appropriate things.” I’d love to be at that sit down.
> Believe it or not, there was a Luke Jackson sighting in Miami. The former Oregon Duck played from 2:14 remaining in the 3rd quarter through the end of the game. The weird thing is, he played well. L Jax actually looked like an NBA player for once.
He immediately came in and got an offensive rebound tip in…and the comeback was on! In the last 8:31 he hit two 3’s, grabbed a board, made a sweet pass to Chris Bosh for a 3-point play and had a dunk. Hopefully this wasn’t his career night.
> The New Orleans/Oklahoma City – Milwaukee game was not on ‘League Pass’. I know I’m the only person that even remotely cares. Just thought I’d mention it.
> Another lackadaisical display of hustle, fundamentals, communication and overall defensive proficiency by the Lakers last night. They allowed the Nuggets to shoot 48.2% overall while getting outscored in every quarter but the 3rd.
I swear that Marcus Camby purposely stomped on Kwame Brown’s already injured left ankle (check the replay) in the 2nd quarter. This forced Brown out of the game after only 16 minutes, but more importantly, it also removed LA’s best interior defender. Without Kwame the combo of Andrew Bynum & Ronny Turiaf was eaten alive by Mr. Camby & Nene Hilario.
My Lakers better get their act together soon (if that’s even possible) because the schedule the rest of the way is not kind. The Clippers tonight is a *must* win because the next two teams are guaranteed to shred Phil Jackson’s D. Seattle & Phoenix play just like Memphis & Denver, i.e. they get up and down the court in a hurry. And since transition defense is, and has been, LA’s weakness for going on two years now, an inopportune four game losing streak is not out of the question.
